TopstepX Back Online After Outage; Traders Report Unintended Trades

TopstepX returned to service Tuesday after an outage disrupted access to the trading platform during the morning of Sept. 22, 2026.

Some affected traders also reported seeing orders in their accounts that they said they did not place. Others said they received hedging warnings during the disruption, raising questions about whether unintended account activity could trigger rule enforcement.

Topstep acknowledged the outage and later said the platform was operational again. The company has not publicly detailed the cause, full scope or precise duration of the disruption.

Topstep promises follow-up for affected accounts

In an update posted to its official account on X, Topstep said that “TopstepX is back online and trading is fully operational.”

The company added that traders whose accounts were affected would receive an email with additional details.

At the time of publication, Topstep had not publicly explained what remediation it might provide. It remains unclear whether disputed trades will be voided, account balances adjusted, rule violations reversed or account resets offered.

Prop Informer has also not confirmed whether any functions associated with Topstep Brokerage were affected.

Hedging warnings add another layer of concern

Reports of hedging warnings are particularly significant because Topstep prohibits traders from holding opposing positions that eliminate market risk across their accounts.

Under Topstep’s published hedging policy, an initial warning alone does not affect payout eligibility. More serious or repeated violations, however, can result in automatic liquidation, temporary trading restrictions or account closure.

Topstep also states that confirmed hedging violations are final and cannot be appealed. Accounts closed for hedging violations cannot be reinstated, and associated profits are not eligible for withdrawal.

The company’s policy acknowledges that technical glitches or copy-trading software can temporarily create opposing positions, but says traders remain responsible for activity across their accounts. That makes the treatment of any outage-related warnings an important part of Topstep’s expected follow-up.

Prop Informer has not independently confirmed the cause of the reported orders or whether the hedging alerts resulted in account penalties.

Outage renews scrutiny of TopstepX reliability

TopstepX has become central to the company’s trading programs after Topstep ended support for other trading platforms and moved traders onto its proprietary offering.

The platform experienced periods of instability in 2025, including outages that left some users unable to enter, manage or close positions. Its reliability appeared to improve in recent months, with Topstep CEO Michael Patak recently highlighting the platform’s uptime.

Tuesday’s disruption renews questions about platform reliability and how Topstep will handle account activity that traders say occurred while the service was impaired.

This article will be updated when Topstep provides additional information about the outage or its remediation process.

Topstep has announced what they’re doing for affected traders:

“Hi traders, if you were impacted during today’s outage, here’s what we’re doing to make it right: -Lost money on open trades? Erased.

We’re wiping those losses from your account. -Position reversed? Some trades reversed into an opposite “ghost” position in an attempt to flatten you. These are erased completely, whether they won or lost.

Got flagged for hedging violations today? All violations are removed. -Account violated due to the Maximum Loss Limit? We are reactivating any account closed due to an incorrect rule violation, with negative trades from the outage removed.

Made a profit on open trades? You keep those gains. We aren't touching them.

If your account still looks incorrect after 7pm CT today, Sept 22, contact Trader Support.” via X
